CONVENTIONAL BITUMEN

The most common type of bitumen obtained from the refining of crude oil.

Specifications

1/ Paving Grade Bitumen 50/70

Paving grade bitumen 50/70 is primarily suitable for use in asphalt concrete (AC) and stone mastic asphalt (SMA) for wearing courses, provided that the mixture meets the specified requirements for rutting resistance. When utilizing 50/70 bitumen for base and binder courses, it is essential to verify the mixture’s resistance to rutting. However, the use of 50/70 bitumen is not recommended for any pavement layer intended to withstand heavy, slow-moving traffic, such as slow lanes or approaches to crossroads.

2/ Paving Grade Bitumen 70/100

Paving grade bitumen 70/100 may be used to a limited extent for asphalt concrete (AC) and stone mastic asphalt (SMA) in wearing courses on roads intended for light traffic, provided that the mixture’s resistance to rutting is verified.
